Thousands of cheering supporters gathered at Praia International Airport on Sunday, July 5, to welcome Cape Verde's Blue Sharks after their first appearance at the World Cup. 

The team reached the knockout stage in their debut tournament and took defending champions Argentina to extra time before a 3-2 defeat.

Their homecoming added to the country's 51st Independence Day celebrations.
