The launch ceremony for The Bond Season 6 – A Showcase of Premium Chinese Films and TV Programs was officially held in Nairobi, Kenya, on July 28, under the framework of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. Hosted by China Media Group (CMG), the initiative marks a significant milestone alongside the 70th anniversary of China-Africa diplomatic ties.

The screening campaign brings over 20 featured Chinese productions—spanning television dramas, documentaries, animated series, and variety shows—to African audiences through 15 mainstream media outlets across 12 countries. The productions aims to deepen cultural exchanges, foster mutual understanding, and further strengthen the friendship between China and African nations through the power of audiovisual storytelling.

Delivering her opening remarks via video, Wang Lu, Director of the CMG TV & Film Dubbing Center, stated that partnering with African media to host this exhibition is a concrete action to implement the consensus reached by Chinese and African leaders and deepen cultural ties. She expressed hope that African audiences would gain a vivid perspective on contemporary China's vitality and shared opportunities through these featured titles. Wang reaffirmed a commitment to using audiovisual content as a bridge to deepen media collaboration and contribute to building a closer China-Africa community with a shared future.

Guo Haiyan, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Kenya, highlighted that Season 6 offers African audiences a vivid portrait of contemporary China through themes such as rural revitalization, ecological protection, and traditional culture. Marking both the 70th anniversary of China-Africa diplomatic relations and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, Ambassador Guo called for deepening media and cultural cooperation to foster mutual learning and inject fresh momentum into China-Africa friendship.

Speaking on behalf of the Kenyan government, Mr. Charles Owino, Government Spokesperson in the Executive Office of the President of Kenya, commended CMG for fostering cultural exchange and praised the long-standing Kenya-China partnership built on mutual respect. Noting that Kenya can draw valuable insights from China's development experience, Owino highlighted that appreciation for diversity and independent developmental choices remains the bedrock of international friendship.

Song Jianing, Bureau Chief of CMG Africa, reflected on the purpose of The Bond in connecting cultures and celebrating shared values since its inception in 2021. She highlighted the growing momentum of China’s film industry, which surpassed 21 billion yuan in box office revenue in the first half of 2026, as a testament to the vitality and reach of modern cinematic production. Song expressed confidence that storytelling continues to build empathy, deepen understanding, and unite civilizations across borders.

Additional remarks were delivered by prominent Kenyan media and film sector leaders, including Mr. David Omwoyo, CEO of the Media Council of Kenya; Ms. Agnes Kalekye, Managing Director of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation; Mr. Timothy Owase, CEO of the Kenya Film Commission and Ms. Nelly Muluka, CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board. The speakers collectively affirmed the role of audiovisual collaboration in promoting media professionalism and broadening creative horizons.

Since its launch in 2021, The Bond exhibition hosted by China Media Group has partnered with over 50 mainstream media outlets in more than 40 African countries, broadcasting over 120 outstanding Chinese film and television productions that have won wide acclaim among local audiences. These diverse offerings have offered African viewers an authentic window into contemporary Chinese culture and social life.
