Former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah arrived in Turkiye on Wednesday to complete his move to Trabzonspor after leaving the Premier League club at the end of his contract.

The Turkish Super Lig side announced said on Tuesday that it had begun transfer negotiations with the 34-year-old Egypt captain. Salah landed at Istanbul Ataturk Airport aboard a private jet wearing the club's burgundy and blue colours and was greeted by hundreds of supporters before undergoing a medical. He was due to travel to Trabzon later in the day.

"Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you. See you very soon," Salah said in a video posted by the club on social media, before joining fans in one of the team's traditional chants upon his arrival.

Trabzonspor chairman Ertugrul Dogan said the club expected Salah to complete the move at a signing ceremony in the Black Sea city on Thursday. Turkish media reported that he was set to sign a two-year contract with an option for a third season, with reports suggesting a salary of around €17 million ($19.6 million) per year although the club had not disclosed the financial details.

Salah leaves Liverpool after nine years in which he scored 257 goals in 442 appearances, making him the club's third-highest scorer of all time. He won two Premier League titles and the Champions League at Anfield, while also netting 193 Premier League goals to rank fourth on the competition's all-time scoring list. 

His 2024-25 season was particularly impressive, with 29 Premier League goals and 18 assists. He won the Premier League Player of the Season, Golden Boot and Playmaker awards, becoming the first player to win all three in the same season.

Salah also captained Egypt to the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, helping the Pharaohs reach the last 16 for the first time since 1934 before they were eliminated by eventual runners-up Argentina.

Trabzonspor, who finished third in the Turkish Super Lig last season to qualify for the Europa League play-off round, beat interest from rivals Beşiktaş to land one of Africa's most decorated footballers.

Salah has scored 66 goals in 119 appearances for Egypt.
