Cape Town museum names new artistic director

Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) in Cape Town welcomed its new artistic director, Elvira Dyangani Ose, on August 12, with a special announcement and introduction event held at the museum. 

Elvira Dyangani Ose will officially take up the position on October 1, 2026, leading the museum's artistic vision as it approaches its 10th anniversary.

An internationally respected curator and museum leader, Elvira Dyangani Ose has worked with major cultural institutions across Europe, Africa, and the United States. 

She previously served as director of Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) and The Showroom in London, and held curatorial positions at Tate Modern in London and Creative Time in New York. 

Ose is currently the artistic director of the second Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial.

Located at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront, Zeitz MOCAA is housed in a historic, converted grain silo complex and is dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. Since opening in 2017, the museum has become an important cultural landmark in Cape Town and a prominent platform for African artists and contemporary art. 

Ose's appointment marks a new chapter for the museum as it enters its second decade.
