The World Meteorological Organization says El Nino is strengthening and could persist through February 2027, with major impacts on global weather patterns.

In the Greater Horn of Africa, the October-to-December rainy season is expected to be wetter than normal across several countries. Some areas could receive more than 400 millimeters of rain, including parts of Somalia, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania.

The seasonal rains are crucial for the region, contributing up to 70% of annual rainfall in some areas.
