Libya's internationally recognized Government of National Unity on Sunday said it has dismantled a suspected sabotage network accused of attacking oil and electricity facilities in the country's west.

The government said that five Libyans and foreigners were arrested in an operation conducted by the Ministry of Defense. The suspects are allegedly linked to suicide drone attacks targeting facilities in Tripoli and the western city of Zawiya.

Authorities said the operation also averted several planned attacks, including one against a power station south of the capital, Tripoli. Other alleged plots targeted key infrastructure as well as political, security and military officials.

Investigations are continuing to determine whether more people were involved and identify those who allegedly organized, financed or supported the operations.

The government added that further details, including the identities of the suspects and their alleged backers, would be released after preliminary investigations are completed.

The arrests follow several weeks of attacks and sabotage affecting oil and electricity infrastructure across western Libya. The incidents have increased pressure on the country's power network and public services during the summer, when electricity demand is high.
