Uganda is gearing up for a crucial two-day rugby tournament that will determine one of the teams advancing to the 2027 World Rugby Sevens Series.

The qualification event, set for September 26-27, will bring together eight national teams and mark the first leg of the 2026/2027 men's World Rugby Sevens qualifying series.

Uganda Rugby Union President Godwin Kayangwe said preparations were progressing in partnership with the government, with organizers aiming to deliver a successful tournament.

Uganda will also be seeking success on the field, with Kayangwe saying the hosts are assembling a competitive squad capable of winning the qualifier and securing promotion to the global series.

The hosts have been placed in Group B alongside Zambia, Tunisia and Senegal.

Meanwhile, Group A features Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana and Morocco, setting up a competitive battle for the tournament's sole qualification spot.

The team that finishes top of the tournament will earn an automatic place in the 2027 World Rugby Sevens Series.
