For just two months each year, a semi-desert landscape on South Africa's west coast transforms into a breathtaking sea of wildflowers.

At West Coast National Park, millions of native flowers burst into bloom after the winter rains, carpeting the landscape in shades of white, yellow, orange and purple. The park lies within the Cape Floristic Region, one of the world's richest biodiversity hotspots, home to thousands of plant species found nowhere else on Earth.

In 2026, the flower season arrived earlier than usual following a warmer, drier winter, making this spectacular display even more fleeting.
