Egypt, Saudi Arabia reaffirm ties amid regional tensions

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi met Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in Cairo on Tuesday. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, trade and regional security.

According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, Sisi and Mohammed bin Salman agreed to strengthen cooperation and work to remove obstacles affecting trade and investment between the two countries.

The Egyptian president also condemned what he described as attacks or threats against Saudi Arabia's sovereignty, stability and territorial integrity.

Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's support for measures taken by Riyadh to protect its security and backed efforts to reach a comprehensive and sustainable political settlement to the conflict in Yemen.

Mohammed bin Salman, meanwhile, praised Egypt's role in supporting regional stability and peace and expressed appreciation for Cairo's solidarity with Saudi Arabia amid recent geopolitical challenges.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi movement, with regional security concerns adding urgency to discussions between Cairo and Riyadh.

Egypt and Saudi Arabia have maintained close political and economic ties, with cooperation spanning investment, trade, energy and regional diplomacy.

The latest talks underscore the importance both governments place on strengthening bilateral cooperation while addressing wider regional security challenges.
