Africa Watch: Kenya Gives Undocumented Foreigners 90 Days – What Happens Next?

Kenya has given undocumented foreign nationals 90 days to register with their respective embassies and regularize their status. The directive follows President William Ruto’s order targeting foreigners living and working in the country without valid documentation. The announcement sparked panic among hundreds of Burundians in Nairobi, who gathered at their embassy after an earlier deadline expired.

For many undocumented foreigners in Kenya, the 90-day window offers a chance to put their status in order—but also raises concerns over what happens to those who fail to meet the deadline. As embassies prepare to handle a surge in applications, one question remains: will the new grace period bring clarity and a path to regularization, or leave many migrants facing an uncertain future?

Hear our reporter Robert Nagila unpack the significance of the issue in this episode of Africa Watch.
