Farmers in Uganda are struggling with prolonged dry weather, dwindling food stocks and rising production costs, while forecasts of heavier-than-normal rainfall raise concerns about possible flash floods and landslides.

Northern and eastern Uganda are among the worst-affected areas. Delayed rains have also disrupted planting, leaving many farmers racing to prepare their land for the new season.

In Butambala, some coffee farmers are turning to irrigation to save their crops, though prolonged heat is limiting its effectiveness. Farmers say the dry spell has already raised production costs and threatens both harvest volumes and bean quality.
