UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday called on Horn of Africa countries to avoid actions that would escalate tensions, said his spokesman.
"The UN is concerned by rising tensions among countries in the Horn of Africa at a time when unity, dialogue and cooperation are urgently needed to support peace and stability in the region," said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman.
"The Secretary-General calls on all States to exercise restraint, refrain from any actions that would further inflame tensions and commit to resolving their differences through dialogue," said the spokesman.
The UN chief made this appeal as the conflict in Ethiopia's northernmost Tigray region has regional implications.
