Africa Watch: US Sanctions the ICC — What Happens Next?

02:16

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is facing mounting pressure as the United States escalates sanctions against the tribunal and calls on member states to withdraw. Washington accuses the court of overstepping its jurisdiction and threatening American sovereignty, while several African countries have also challenged its impartiality and begun moves to leave.

The ICC has condemned the US sanctions, warning that they threaten its independence and undermine international justice. Despite the pressure, the court maintains that it will continue to fulfil its mandate and pursue accountability for the most serious international crimes.

As US pressure intensifies and more countries question the court’s legitimacy, what does this mean for the ICC’s future and its ability to deliver international justice?

Robert Nagila explains in this episode of Africa Watch.
