Kenya has confirmed its eighth case of Ebola, Director-General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth announced on Sunday.

Out of 38 people tested on Sunday, a 49-year-old patient attendant at Nairobi Hospital tested positive for the virus.

Health officials noted the man is not a direct healthcare worker but was responsible for cleaning utensils and linens, likely exposing him to Kenya's index case—a man who traveled from the Democratic Republic of Congo and died in Nairobi on October 5.

"He developed a fever, headache, and muscle pain," Amoth said during an interview on Citizen TV.

The patient, who was already in quarantine, was isolated immediately after showing symptoms on Saturday before his test returned positive the following day.

Kenya remains on high alert as the broader regional outbreak continues to expand.

On Sunday, Congolese authorities confirmed that the virus has spread to an eighth province, North Ubangi, raising further concerns over cross-border transmission.
