A sudden wave of displacement is putting the Kenya–Ethiopia border around the Moyale town under pressure, with tens of thousands of people arriving in search of safety after violence erupted across the border. Many have been forced to leave their homes with little warning, seeking shelter in camps and nearby villages. Women and children make up a significant share of those displaced, adding urgency to efforts to provide food, water, healthcare and other essential support.
In this Africa Watch video episode, Robert Nagila examines the tensions behind the Moyale crisis and how a dispute between Ethiopia’s Oromia and Somali regional states has triggered a wider humanitarian challenge. As Kenyan authorities strengthen border security and aid agencies respond to the growing needs, host communities are facing additional pressure on already limited resources. With the situation still unfolding, a key question remains: how long can these communities sustain the response if more people continue to flee?
