Egypt reopened its embassy in Tripoli on Saturday, resuming diplomatic operations at its original premises after a 12-year closure due to security concerns in Libya.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty officially reopened the embassy alongside Libya's Acting Foreign Minister Taher al-Baour.

Abdelatty said the reopening held historical and diplomatic significance, describing the building as a link between the countries' shared heritage and future ambitions.

Libya's Government of National Unity said the move reflected progress in bilateral ties.

The reopening comes amid renewed diplomatic engagement between Libya and Egypt, with officials discussing ways to expand cooperation across various fields.

Libya has remained politically divided in the years following the 2011 overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi, with the UN-recognized Government of National Unity based in Tripoli and a rival administration in the east backed by the Libyan National Army.
