Qatar has won the 2019 Asian Cup after overcoming Japan 3-1 in the final game played on Friday at the Zayed Sport City Stadium in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Qatar's goals came through Almoez Ali, Abdulaziz Hatem and Akram Afif, while Japan's sole goal was scored by Takumi Minamino.
This is the first time ever that The Maroons have won the Asian Cup, meaning nine different countries have now won the trophy.
Qatar got into their first ever final on the back of an impressive 1-0 win against tournament favorite South Korea followed by a convincing 4-0 win against the hosts UAE.
Japan was looking to win a record-extending fifth Asian Cup title, a feat that would have made coach Hajime Moriyasu the first player to win the trophy both as a player and as a manager.
Throughout the tournament, Qatar conceded just one goal, scoring 19 goals in the seven games they played.
