On January 1, 2019, Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald trump exchanged congratulatory letters, warmly congratulating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Xi Jinping pointed out in his congratulatory letter that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 40 years ago, bilateral relations have gone through ups and downs and achieved historic development, which has brought huge benefits to the two peoples and made important contributions to world peace, stability and prosperity. History fully proves that cooperation is the best choice for both sides.
Xi stressed that China-U.S. relations are at an important stage.
"I attach great importance to the development of China-U.S. relations and would like to work with the President to summarize the experience of the development of bilateral relations, implement the consensus reached by the two of us and jointly promote China-U.S. relations based on coordination, cooperation and stability so as to bring greater benefits to the two peoples and people of other countries."
In his letter of congratulations, Trump said that January 1, 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States of America and the People's Republic of China.
