CAF president arrested in France

Ahmad Ahmad, the current president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) was arrested Thursday in Paris.

He is being questioned in connection into the alleged misappropriation of $830,000.

In April, former CAF Secretary-General Amr Fahmy accused Ahmad Ahmad of alleged bribery and misappropriation of funds after awarding a contract to a French company called Tactical Steel. Fahmy was fired from the organization shortly after making the allegations.

Ahmad had previously denied the accusations, claiming all the decisions were made “collegially” and that the process was “transparent”.

Sabine Seillier, president of Tactical Steel, also insists that her company won the contract on a transparent basis. She noted that her company was the only one that could guarantee delivery of the equipment CAF sought in a tight timeframe of three weeks.

Ahmad also serves as the vice-president of FIFA.

Following Ahmad's arrest, FIFA released a statement, saying it will not comment on the matter and that the organization is focused on its mission to run football in a clean and transparent manner worldwide.
